Message from the Headteacher

Dear Families

We hope that the new academic year has started well for your children and that they have settled into their good routines and excellent habits of learning. We are delighted to have been engaged in recruiting the Student Leadership Team for this academic year and we will be sharing the results in the next edition of the SYD Newsletter.

A record number of students put their names forward and were interviewed accordingly. It was a moving experience and a real privilege to be able to listen to the great ideas and aspirations of the students for our school. We take ‘Student Voice’ seriously at Sydenham School and are looking forward, very much, to working in partnership with the students in continuing to improve the school in those areas that have been identified as needing to be strengthened.

The school priorities for this year include embedding excellence in teaching in all subjects; impeccable behaviour for learning and ensuring that safeguarding remains the ‘golden thread’ in everything that we do.

The school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is thriving and is made up of committed and hard working parents who are aligned with the vision of the school and want the very best for the school community. All families are welcome to attend the next meeting which is on Wednesday
2nd of October beginning at 6pm in the Library. Please do come along and join us. New members and new ideas are always welcome.

I hope as ever, that you have a lovely and restful weekend with your families and friends.

Kind regards

Mrs Lowe

On Wednesday 11th of September, 10 students from Years 9, 10 and 11 had the unforgettable opportunity to watch Alvin Ailey's performance of Revelations - the most -seen modern dance performance in the world. We really enjoyed watching it and found the dances interesting as they combined lots of different movement styles. We were blown away by the unison and the contact work as it was extremely professional and polished. Revelations illustrated the history, traditions and beliefs of African American culture and told stories of the journey from slavery to freedom. It was a memorable experience and I would definitely recommend watching it as I know that everyone who was there really enjoyed it.
