Message from the Head

Dear Parents

It has been a full and fantastic week at Sydenham school with so many events taking place. The Performing Arts Showcase Evening was amazing – so much variety, talent and hard work with Year 7 through to Year 12 students performing. I really was blown away. Well done to Ms Barker and her Performing Arts team. It was also great to see Maggie Hammond and the PTA at the Showcase Evening and I encourage parents to contact Maggie if you wish to join what is a very successful PTA at the school and whom successfully raise money all year for the school. It’s much appreciated.

We also had Sports Day on Thursday which showcased the fantastic sporting talent at the school and showed the commitment and hard work of students and teachers in this area. Of course we had the usual British weather to compete with as well!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Sports Day. Well done to Ms Molligoda, Ms Barker and all of the PE team for doing such a great job and to all staff for doing your jobs too. I thought it went really well and the weather held for most of the day.

I particularly enjoyed the ‘Inclusiveness’ of the event, but also seeing the more Athletic students being able to show off their talents. And on that note …the staff …well done to those who ran, it’s important to join in and show the students that we are all up for it.

Year 11 and 13 exams are nearly finished and the students have been brilliant at keeping up their energy levels and their hard work to achieve the best that they can.

There was also a fantastic Science Challenge that took part on Monday which Ms Parry, our Head of Science, to the lead on. It was eight schools from Lewisham and Bexley competing in The Bexley and Lewisham Science and Technology Challenge Day which took place at Greenwich University. A great day which was fun but also educational and competitive – well done to the Year 8 and 9 students who took part in that.

A great week – have a great weekend

London Borough Athletics Championships

On Tuesday 14th June, three Year 8 students competed in the London Borough Athletics Championships held at Mile End Athletics Track. The girls were selected to compete for the Lewisham Borough as they came first in their events at the Lewisham Schools Athletics competition.

Macie Gordon competed in the 200m and came 4th in her heat. Chantelle Tabeni and Macie Gordon competed in the 4x100m relay and came 4th overall. Suraya Ellis-Davis competed in Discus and came 7th overall.

This was an excellent experience for the girls, as they were up against some tough competition. They all competed with great enthusiasm and passion. Despite the heavy rain throughout the day the girls enjoyed the experience and they are looking forward to the Athletics competitions next year.
