The school’s Senior Leaders tour the new school
Earlier this week the whole of the school’s Leadership Team toured the new school building together. The final touches are being put together before we move in over the Easter holiday and it was great to see how the building will look and work. The spaces, the facilities and the general feel of the building really impressed everyone. There are some really quirky touches, bespoke sewing tables in textiles rooms which allow students to swivel between a sewing station and a writing station, a lighting rig in one of the drama studios so performing arts students can learn technical skills and a roof terrace for sixth formers amongst others. The soft furnishings have started to arrive and the interior design is really becoming apparent now. The quality of the room finishes and the fixed furniture is impressive, these spaces will be a delight to teach and learn in.
We have begun thinking about how we will actually use the building, designing queuing strategies to move students into the dining hall and out again in a calm and measured manner to improve the lunchtime experience. We can seat nearly double the amount of students at lunchtime than we can seat now but with the best will in the world we can’t fit the whole school in the dining hall at the same time so we will still have some students on 2nd sitting. We are looking at how we support students to find their way round the new building, to move between floors, with the introduction of “Up” and “Down” staircases, and with changing classrooms after Easter. Once again our outside space will change so we will be moving picnic tables and benches to provide as much social space as we can.
Everyone loved wandering around the new teaching spaces, imagining them with a full class, with displays up and books out as the busy spaces they will soon be. It really does feel like the building is about to wake up and start work!

Bring your own device (BYOD) scheme
We are currently seeking parent views on the idea of allowing all students to bring tablet or laptop devices to school with them through a “Bring your own Device” (or BYOD) scheme.
The practice is now widespread across the business world, and is increasing in popularity within schools and universities.
We invite all parents to respond with their views on this approach by completing the survey here:https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GWY35QS
We are closing the survey on Friday 13th March
