Poets Visit

On Monday 26th January students from year 8 all the way through to year 11 were blown away by the verbal dexterity and innovative rhymes of visiting performance poet Adisa the Verbaliser. Adisa performed two interactive one-hour sets, engaging the audience through his use of questioning by performing a poem in response to any question he was asked. Students were able to see the metaphors, similes and personification they have been analysing in poems from the English Literary Heritage put into dazzling practice and the performance brought poetry to life for them in a thoroughly modern and accessible way. Thanks for such an inspiring show, Adisa!

Robotics workshop

This week was STEM week and in year 7 STEM club an ambassador from STEMNET held a robotics workshop. The aim of this workshop was to get the students thinking about robots. For example what  robots are capable of now and their potential in the future.

After exploring human and animal emotions students were then asked whether they thought robots could have an emotion. By the end of the workshop students learnt that some robots were capable of having emotions and programmed a robot to portray an emotion of their choice.

Sydenham in the news

Sydenham School’s Alumni Network!
As you may know Sydenham School is working with the charity Future First to reconnect us with our former students and keep in touch with our school leavers from their last day. Our alumni can support us in so many ways, from volunteers and in-school speakers to work experience providers and fundraisers. We already have some fantastic former students signed up and would love to grow the network even more. It doesn’t matter when they  left school, whether they’re in further education or employment, whether they still live nearby or have moved further away, there are still ways they can help! If  know former students who we can connect with ; please ask them to visit and join our alumni network!

Sydenham PTA

Dear Sydenham Parents,

You are all most welcome to come and celebrate the success of the Sydenham PTA.  Come and hear about the fantastic events that we have run and supported over the last 12 months.  And help us plan the next year.

What are we getting right?  What could be better?  What worked really well in another school that you know about?  How are we all going to cope with the 3 week Easter holiday?
Come and let us know - and help us improve.
(If you could let me know if you are intending to come – that would be great – I can then let the pub know how many to expect. Thanks).

Wednesday 11 February - Venue – Bricklayers Arms – opposite the school entrance. 7.00 – 8.00 pm

The Annual Dance Show on Thursday 12 February 7.00 pm – letters have gone home – posters are up around the school – tickets are on sale.
If you are going along to this evening – would you be willing to serve refreshments beforehand and during the interval?
(Refreshments will only go ahead if at least 5 people volunteer – so you won’t be on your own.  Why not ask a friend to help you? And please let me know by 16.00 tomorrow).

Many thanks.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you all next week.

Best wishes,

Fiona Taylor
