PROPOSED NATIONAL NUT STRIKE 26TH MARCH

There is a proposed national NUT strike on the 26th March. Should the strike go ahead -  the school will remain open for Yr11, 12 and 13 students to ensure they have an opportunity to access school resources. We will let parents have more details nearer the time.

STEM UPDATE

The following three students have been awarded places on Chemistry residential camps: Andi Marsh, The University of Bath, 7-9 July 2014; Lydia Swift, The University of Bath, 7-9 July 2014; Seval Erdogan, The University of Cambridge, 10-12 July 2014. Well done girls!

NEW BUILDING TOPPING OUT CEREMONY

On Monday 31st March at 11.30am the Mayor of Lewisham and other local dignitaries will be visiting Sydenham to perform the ‘topping out’ ceremony on the new building. We will also be placing the Time Capsule below the new Performing Arts Block and a team of students from the Student Council and our Leadership Students will be participating in the Ceremony. This is an important and exciting stage in the new build process as it marks the reaching of the highest point of the building.

PUNCTUALITY CHALLENGE

Punctuality figures for this week: (Monday 10th to Friday 14th)
Congratulations to 7S, 10D and 11A for being the best tutor groups for 2 weeks in a row – you’re making Mr Henry, Mr Wanza and Ms Lister really proud!   
The best Tutor Group for punctuality each half-term will be winning a prize!

Can you beat these figures next week? It relies on you being in school on time every day.
Year 7 - 98.3% best TG = 7S
Year 8 - 98.3% best TG = 8Y
Year 9 - 96.9% best TG = 9H
Year 10 - 94.3% best TG = 10D
Year 11 - 91.7% best TG = 11A
We should be at 100% in every Year Group - who’s stopping your Tutor Group from being on target for time!

WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS

Each year Sydenham School provides work experience placements for as many students as possible. Please could you ask parents and carers if they or their employer would be willing to offer a work experience placement to one or more of our students.

PARENTS GET TOGETHER

Thursday 20th March between 8 – 11.00pm at All Inn One Bar, 53 Perry Vale, SE23 2NE and/or on Thursday 27th March between 10.30 – 12.00am at The Montage coffee shop, 33 Dartmouth Road, SE23 3HN and on 03 April there is the Sydenham Spring Concert – 7.00pm. The newly formed Sydenham PTA will be supporting the school at the Concert – selling drinks and refreshments.  Please put the date in your diary and think about coming along to help.

BOOK WEEK 2014 - DRESS UP DAY

Many of the students and staff dressed in World War I themed costumes or as characters from a favourite book or film. The day was a great success and so much effort had been put in that it was impossible to choose an individual winner so several prizes were awarded this year.
