CITIZENSHIP

Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge - Lewisham Final
We had Mimi Umoh and Fola Osundina representing Sydenham at the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge Lewisham final on Friday night. Mimi won first place! She won the brand new ipod touch and a very nice certificate and trophy. She is also highly likely to be in the Grand Final in July and has apparently been invited to the House of Lords! Very well deserved! Click here if you'd like to see her winning speech.

Physical Education

The Year 8 Athletics team competed in the Lewisham Athletics competition. They ended up finishing 2nd out of 10 schools, I was very proud of the girls for their efforts.

The Year 8 rounders match against Prendergast Hilly Fields. They did brilliantly and I am so impressed with them they won 21-8.
Yes you did read that right a massive lead of 21-8. Well done the Year 8 rounders team!

LRC - lEARNING rESOURCES cENTRE eVENTS

Forest Hill School – Author Event
7S will be attending a presentation by the author Jo Nesbo on Monday 14th May P5 & 6 at Forest Hill School. They will be accompanied by Ms Adams from the LRC and Ms Emmanuel.

Lewisham Book Award

On the 1st of May, ten girls from Sydenham School took part in the Lewisham Book Award presentation.

They worked with students from 9 other Lewisham secondary schools to make a presentation to author and judge, Phil Earle. The students had to persuade Phile Earle about why the book they were presenting is the best one for him to buy.

Students had to work together in mixed school teams, when they had never met before, to produce a PowerPoint presentation and stand up and talk to an audience of 100 students and adults. Their big challenge was to persuade Phil Earle that the book they were presenting was the one he should buy and read.
This was the culmination of a project where the students read five books, wrote reviews about the books and voted for their favourite one.

Holly Chacksfield and Fawziah Hussain's team won the runner up prize. They gave such a courageous performance, especially as their PowerPoint failed to work, they relied entirely on persuading us of the merits of their book by talking directly to the audience, without props.

The other girls representing Sydenham were Esther Grah, Katherine Kybird, Julia Solecka, Chidera Ogbonna, Chloe Lang, Egzona Sejdija, Jaspreet Nyote and Thea Gegeshidze.

The books they read were
Dark Life by Kat Falls
Johnny Swanson by Eleanor Updale
Trash by Andy Mulligan
Sparks by Ally Kennen
Being Billy by Phil Earle.
