International Literacy Day

Heads down and noses buried in books for International Literacy Day on September 8th, the whole school stopped to read during tutor time, students, teachers, cleaners, cooks, premises staff et al.

Accelerated Reader

This week Y7 will be tested in the library to determine their reading level for Accelerated Reader. Following this, each student will take regular quizzes to develop their literacy skills. Please regularly ask your Y7 child what their reading level is, how many quizzes they have taken and what book they are currently reading. Your support will be invaluable in improving your child's literacy.

STEM series lecture Thursday 25th September

6.00pm-7.00pm Main School Hall

Our next lecture in our successful STEM series lectures is by Katie Petty-Saphon Chief Executive of the medical council. The medical council  represents the interests and ambitions of UK Medical schools. Katie's lecture will not only educate and inform those curious about a career in medicine but will also describe her path to the top of her profession. Dr Petty-Saphon is a former Governor of the University of Hertfordshire and a former Vice Chair of Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust. She is a Trustee of the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund and an Associate of Newnham College Cambridge.

You are all invited to a “Meet the Parents” picnic in the Horniman Gardens on Sunday 21 September – 14.00 – 16.00.  This is a chance for you to come along with your daughter and meet her new classmates and to say hello to the other parents in your daughter’s form and year.  (We will meet on the grassy slope behind the Band Stand).

Well done to these tutor groups for getting 100%

School Photos

School photos for years 7, 9 and 11 are being distributed on Friday 19th and Monday 22nd September.
Please be aware that you child will be given a portrait proof photo either today or on Monday. Year 7 and Year 11 will also have a photo of their whole Year Group which was taken last week. These make lovely keepsakes of their time at school and are often really popular with Grandparents and other family members!
Please ensure that all your orders are returned to school within 7 days to avoid postage charges and late fees.
Thank you
