On Tuesday night we hosted the first round of the Urban Debate League here at Sydenham. We entered two teams into this round of the competition and I'm pleased to say that both teams won one debate and lost one. We had over 80 students debating from Harris Academy Bromley, Prendergast Vale, Norwood School and Blackheath Bluecoats. The two motions debated were, "This house would legalise euthanasia" and "this house would enforce an 8pm curfew for all under 16's". As you can imagine there were very persuasive arguments made for both sides! This was their first formal debate outside the club so they did really well.
We warmly invite parents to attend The Dance Show on Wednesday 8th February at 7pm in the main school hall, where we will be showcasing GCSE and A' Level examination work as well as Sydenham's Dance Company. Tickets are available from the Dance office at a fee of £2 per adult and £1 per child. We look forward to seeing you there.

Lewisham Music Survey for Parents
Lewisham Music Service is reviewing its support for children and young people's music making both in and out of school as a result of the recent Government National Plan, 'The Importance of Music' (DfE, November 2011). The Music Service would be very grateful if parents and carers could spend a few minutes completing a short online survey which can be found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/parentsmusicsurvey. Responses are due by Friday 3rd February 2012.
The intention of this is for the Music Service to do some research on how the Music Education Hub can best support young people's music making in and out of school.
Thank you for your co-operation.
